Learning Framework / Developing Critical and Creative Thinking
The strategic theme of Student Achievement as part of Catholic Schools Broken Bay Towards 2025, includes academic growth and achievement, success for students in all aspects of learning, and innovation and evidenced based practices to improve outcomes for all.
St Paul’s is committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Accordingly, the College offers a broad and relevant curriculum catering to our students’ broad range of interests and abilities. Our learning environment provides all students with the foundations to excel as learners. Our learning programs have been developed to stimulate each student’s engagement in their learning, and to support the learning gain of each individual student.
Learning Relationships
At St Paul’s we provide an environment that supports all students in developing a commitment to continual learning, maximising their achievement in their formal education, and developing a lifelong love of learning.
Learning relationships are developed early as evidence shows that connections with and understanding students is fundamental for their future success. St Paul’s teachers strive to know and understand their students, supporting them to become motivated and respected students, while encouraging them to be their best.
The curriculum is structured in such a way to support each student’s curiosity about the world around them, encouraging an enquiring mind while supporting students as they grow to become responsible and knowledgeable world citizens.
Individual Learning
Each student has their own learning journey. Programs at St Paul’s support students, their parents, and their teachers in identifying appropriate learning pathways for each student. This includes regular goal setting meetings with students, parents, and teachers, providing opportunities to reflect and refocus as required.
Subject choices and patterns of study provide opportunities for each student to maximise their educational outcomes while at the College. This may be a pattern of study that allows students to follow an academic tertiary path; it may be the opportunity to develop the life skills that supports an apprentice or traineeship, specifically a School Based Apprentice and Traineeship (SBAT), or it may be with extra support provided by our Diverse Learning staff, in and out of the classroom.
Range of Learning skills
Our dedicated teaching staff have engaged with a wide range of professional learning opportunities, particularly with literacy programs, developing subject specific teaching and learning strategies that support students as they develop their literacy skills. This is not just critical in the day-to-day activities of the classroom and assessment but is preparing each student for their lifelong journey.
