Extra Curricular
Sport
Sport is an integral part of life at St Paul’s and the participation in a school team is a matter of pride. We believe that participation in team sports, healthy competition and skill development are essential elements in the development of well-balanced young people. At St Paul’s, students have the opportunity to participate in both internal and external Sport and Co Curricular activities, proving beneficial across all facets of school life. Our weekly sport program is held on a Thursday for Years 7-10 and is crafted to foster a lifelong appreciation for physical activity, catering to all skill levels and fitness abilities as well as providing exposure to a wide range of activities.
Internal Sport (Thursday Sport)
Participation in internal school sport is compulsory at St Paul’s from Years 7 – 10 inclusive. Our Thursday Sports Program aims to create an environment in which students can challenge themselves without the fear of failure, where they can achieve personal goals and where they can feel comfortable trying a new skill or sport for the first time.
Each term across the school year our sports rotate, giving the students the opportunity to develop new skills and build rapport with different groups of peers. Each student makes preferences on their sports allocation, in which historically, all students have been allocated one of their top three choices.
We believe our internal sports program provides students the opportunity to:
- Increase their physical fitness, their social and emotional wellbeing and their ability to learn in the classroom
- Connect with peers and the wider School community through engaging in a variety of sports
- Learn lifelong skills such as collaboration, time management, teamwork and dedication
- Develop and enhance values such as courage, respect, commitment and integrity, and
- Develop a lifelong love of physical activity in one form or another
Representative Sport
St Paul’s boasts a vibrant sporting culture with notable achievements in representative sports. Students take part in a variety of organised events throughout the year, competing against other schools within the Diocese as well as in individual competitions.
Our comprehensive sporting program, delivered by skilled and dedicated coaches, encompasses a broad range of sports. This program supports athletes in advancing to higher levels, including regional, state, and national competitions, and international tours through organisations such as Combined Catholic Colleges, NSW All Schools, and School Sport Australia.
Students are carefully graded into a team that matches their individual level of skill, where weekly training refines skills and develops tactical awareness for upcoming matches. All sport fixtures are played during the school week within Broken Bay or Northern Beaches competitions, providing students with the representative pathways to NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Championships, NSW All Schools and Australian School Sport. In Term 1 for 2025, we have a busy schedule of both trials and competitions at the Broken Bay representative level.
