NBCPAA
At St Paul’s Catholic College, we celebrate a vibrant culture of Creative & Performing Arts that extends beyond the classroom and enriches the life of our community. Our students can engage in the Northern Beaches Catholic Precinct Performing Arts Academy (NBCPPAA), where they explore their talents in Music, Visual Arts, Dance, and Drama. NBCPPAA is renowned for its creativity, innovation, and the remarkable achievements of our students, many of whom earn prestigious awards at the HSC level.
Music Program
Our Music program provides students with numerous opportunities for composition and performance. Talented visiting tutors offer instrumental lessons, fostering individual growth and passion for music. The College Big Band regularly showcases its talent at public events and school functions, while our Liturgical Band enhances the spiritual experience during Sunday Mass.
Band Program
St Paul’s offers a variety of ensembles for students to join, catering to all skill levels. Participation is open to all students, except for the audition-based Senior Jazz Ensemble. Our ensembles include:
- College Big Band: Our main multi-instrumental ensemble. Students are responsible for providing their own instruments.
- Senior Jazz Ensemble: This is our premier ensemble, requiring an audition due to its focus on high-level improvisation and performance.
- College Liturgical Group: This ensemble is dedicated to liturgical praise through music, performing at school masses and monthly at St Mary’s Church in Manly.
Each ensemble incurs a semester fee covering two terms of direction, which will be added to your child’s school fees. Please note that these fees are non-refundable if a student withdraws before the semester concludes.
Private Music Tuition
We offer a diverse range of private music lessons as part of the NBCPPAA Music Program. Students can receive one-on-one instruction in:
- Bass Guitar
- Guitar
- Percussion/Drum Kit
- Piano
- Saxophone
- Trumpet
Lessons are conducted weekly, with students receiving a total of ten lessons per term. Specialist music teachers will invoice students for the term, and fees are non-refundable. Availability is based on student enrollment.
Dance Program
We are thrilled to announce the introduction of our new Dance Program as part of the NBCPPAA, set to commence in 2025. This program will cater to everyone from amateur dancers to enthusiastic performers. Students will have the chance to join the dance group, which will rehearse after school on designated days, focusing on both technique and choreography to enhance their love of dance. Participants will also have opportunities to compete at external dance eisteddfods and perform at various College events.
Creative and Performing Arts Showcase Evenings
At St Paul’s Catholic College, we warmly invite our community to join us for our Creative and Performing Arts Showcase Evenings, where you can experience the incredible talents of our students firsthand.
HSC On Show
One of the highlights of our showcase is HSC On Show, featuring the major works of our Year 11 and 12 students. This event offers guests a unique opportunity to witness the dedication and creativity of our Senior students across various disciplines, including:
- Design and Technology
- Multimedia and Timber
- Music
- Photography
- Video and Digital Imaging
- Visual Arts
Arts on the Grass
Another exciting event is Arts on the Grass, a festival-style gathering held on our expansive grounds overlooking the harbour. This vibrant celebration allows you to explore the artwork of students from all year levels while enjoying performances from our various musical groups within the Band Program. Grab a bite to eat and immerse yourself in the lively performing arts culture of St Paul’s Catholic College!
